According to the NCAA, fewer than 5% of all high school student athletes will play at the college level. Often, high school athletes seek schools where undergrads support athletes by filling the stands. To develop a gauge of a student body’s commitment to supporting athletics, we studied the 2010 NCAA attendance records. Football and men’s and women’s basketball garner the most support among athletic programs, so we focused on average attendance in these sports. Fifteen institutions boast home attendance higher than the national average in all three sports. In the case of Michigan State and the University of Wisconsin, attendance totals exceeded the national average for men’s hockey as well.
